It runs on 4 AA batteries and comes with a remote control which this one is without, it must have got lost at some time. This one is © 1963 BBC and was made in China, I think this one appeared in  "The Ribose Operation"  which was transmitted in 1978 and last appeared in"Warrior's Gate" 1981.
